Table of contents
The tannins are natural compounds that are part of the polyphenols group, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Tannin is commonly found in wines and its presence directly impacts the taste of the beverage. In other words, this is a compound that is abundant in grape It is found in its bark, seeds and stems, but also in other fruits rich in plant phenols.
What they are for and their benefits
Tannins are naturally anti-inflammatory, i.e., they promote antioxidant action. Therefore, they benefit immunity, so they can help prevent inflammatory diseases and infections of various types. Not only, they can slow down the aging process of the skin, so they prevent premature aging, which is the result of an inflammatory process known as "stressoxidative", caused by free radicals.
Also, tannins are important in the production of wines, determining their flavor. Therefore, wines with a greater presence of this compound are called tannic wines and have a stronger and more accentuated flavor.
This type of wine is made with grapes with thicker skins (Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Shiraz, among others) and therefore contains more tannins.
