Why does the white hair appear?

According to the professional, the white hair appears because of an anatomical phenomenon called apoptosis.

It is the programmed cell death of the melanocyte, that is, the cell that produces the melanin This is the pigment that gives color to the hair and skin.

"Melanin, in turn, is a protein produced within the cytoplasm of melanocytes constantly, until it stops," adds the doctor.

O trichologist also points out that the moment when the hair starts to turn white is genetically determined.

"However, whenever there is doubt about its appearance, one should look for some metabolic alteration in the nutritional sense," he points out. This is because a low intake of copper can lead to premature whitening of the hair. This, however, is rare.

What to do when you find a white wire

Contrary to what many people think, plucking out the white hair will do nothing to slow down the appearance of the remaining gray hairs.

"This attitude will only decrease the amount of hair, it will not solve baldness, which is the name given to white hair," Almeida points out.

"Pulling out the hair, therefore, can lead to alopecia by traction. If this action is frequent, it can still lead to a definitive absence of hair," he adds.

For those who want to slow down the baldness process, the doctor indicates the consumption of foods rich in copper, such as seafood and bitter chocolate, for example.

"Dosing copper in the blood and replenishing it when necessary can help delay the appearance of white hair," points out the trichologist.

Finally, he also points out that, differently from what is popularly said, stress does not have the power to turn hair white, but it can make it fall out faster and more frequently.

"As the strands without color are thicker, they take longer to fall, giving the impression that the hair has become whiter," adds Almeida.
